Grayscale
This map was an introductory assignment to make an effective, visually appealing map with few colors.
Labeling
This map was to challenge us with creating many labels that include good visual hierarchy while avoiding text-feature conflicts.
No Shades
We had to create this map without using any shades (black, white or anything in between). The result was a colorful display, but it also made me realize how much gray I can be inclined to use.
Cartographic Elements
For this map, we had to create a map with unique, creative effects. I used a bathymetry layer for depth, "firefly" symbology for the glowing effect and a paper backsplash for visual hierarchy.
Final Project: Reference Map
I created this map to be a general reference map for my final project, showing important geopolitical features and boundaries, national parks and hydrologic features of Washington state.
Final Project: Urban and
Non-Urban Areas
This map showed the developed and non-developed features of Washington state, introducing the protected area concept to the series.
Final Project: Protected Areas
Finally, this map showed where endangered or threatened species rely on protected areas for habitat.

Mapping with Illustrator: Map for Tourism in Whatcom County
This was the first product from a seminar I attended that focused on mapping through Adobe Illustrator. This map is intended to be used for a general audience visiting Whatcom County for the first time.
